Monthly Club Match , Abbotsbury

I decided to fish this match past the Dragoons Teeth in the hope of some big plaice . Fishing was from low until just after high .Not much happened for the first 4 hours other then a small crab. Then the tide started to run quite hard from right to left which was bringing my plain lead  round to a clay bead as it was tough to pull out so I started to cast both rods in the same place and used plain leads on each of rig .Within 3 or 4 cast I had a couple plaice so maybe I would of had better luck earlier in the day if I had set up 30 yards to my left and used grippers. The sun was now more or less down but I still had size #2 and #4 hooks on which resulted in a little bass at distance . I then lost a good fish which felt like a codling knocking before the dog fish moved in ..I managed 4 of them but lost quite a few due to the small hooks, finished 3rd so not to bad ! THE NEXT DAY........  I made a late decision to go down on the Sunday for a couple hours to see if the pla

I thought i would give my mark at Abbotsbury another go to see if I could find a plaice or two .The water was clear and very calm , so I was feeling optimistic. But for the first 3 hours or so my bait was getting stripped by hermit crabs until finally my long range rod had a nice knock within 2 minutes of being in the water .And a nice flattie was landed all be it a flounder! I missed a few good knocks throughout the after noon ,I believe i needed to leave them a bit longer so I will try and sit on my hands next time ! But i did finally land my target of plaice mid afternoon I gave it a good go up until dusk but could only find dog fish and poor cod .Are monthly match is next weekend so hopefully the plaice will be about in good numbers !!!

Early plaice hunt Abbotsbury 10Th March

Well after dwelling on it for months my question was finally answered today ....does my Plaice mark at Abbotsbury  produce them early in the year???? as I only ever fish this mark for plaice from September/November but thankfully I gave it a go today and as it happen I missed one on my very  first cast but managed to get one out on the very next cast         Not a bad fish for the time of year coming in at 1lbs 5oz They really are greedy little things , I was using a two hook clip down leaving the bottom hook as a dropper and not only did it scoff the black lug on the dropper it then moved on to scoff the rag on the top hook! I believe I lost another on low tide and did manage plenty of dog fish. LOOKS LIKE SPRING IS HERE !!!!!!
